Mark Tuckey's clunky Signature store at Newport Beach Well Hello Beach Dwellers. Today I was originally going to bring you a story about shopping, eating and playing in Sydney's Newport Beach.  I intend on doing that soon, but as I was editing clunky the shots for that story, I thought you may appreciate the artist that is Mark Tuckey. clunky  I thought his talent warranted a post all on its own.  He has a beautifully unique style.  One of  his coffee tables once featured on The Block and the judges loved it.  Mark's wife told me that publicity was a double clunky edged sword.  The phone ran hot after the show, but the price of the coffee table turned clunky many away never to return.  Although this is high end designer ware, you are paying for a future collectors item, which as his wife explained are expensive to produce.  I believe a Mark Tuckey, will span the minimalist fad and last the designer test of time on quality, workmanship and wow factor.
I adore his use of colour pings, layering of textures and unique sculptures.  You can find Mark in both Newport and Avalon clunky Beach.  The Newport store is unmistakable, as you drive down the Newport Hill on Barrenjoey Road.  Here is his Newport website for more details. And his bambino store in Avalon, clunky Mark Tuckey home is   here.
Hi Carolyn, So jealous that these shops are so close to you (Please MT - open up a Brisbane store.) I've been eyeing off his website for ages - I just might have to make a special trip down to Sydney for one massive shopping clunky spree. xx Reply Delete

A Garage Turned Restaurant in Tasmania

Beyond Sydney’s harbor bridge are the beautiful northern beaches, a string of coastal towns ruled by sun and sea. It’s also home to surfer Mark Tuckey: a yachtsman, all-around family guy, and well-known furniture designer.
Tuckey’s look is unabashedly beachy: think generously sized, sun-bleached chairs, tables, benches made from new and recycled wood, predominantly sourced in Australia and made by a team of 15 furniture makers in Tuckey's Melbourne workshop. Thanks to the help he gets from his wife Louella (a former stylist), the couple's Newport Beach shop is a charming mix of personality and color. Bursts of neon come in the form of pink Acapulco chairs pennsylvania house furniture and electric blue pendant lamps; it’s this funky edge that gives the Tuckeys their panache.

Today’s colourful family home in Ashwood, Melbourne is more than just a beautiful place to live. It’s a reminder of how much our surroundings can lift our mood in difficult times, and a shining example rothman of the magic that can happen when friends and loved ones rally around in times of need. This is the home of Sam Johnson, vintage poster aficionado and proprietor of Vintage Posters Only in Armadale, and his two gorgeous young kids Gracie and Charlie. Also in residence are Minxy the cat, and the family chooks, Fatty and Fluffy! The family have been here for nearly ten years.
Sam’s late wife Sharon discovered this late modernist home in the back streets of Ashwood, in suburban Melbourne nearly 10 years ago. As Sam recalls, ‘she found the listing in The Age on a Wednesday, and by the Saturday it was ours!’. At that time, the home was surrounded by orange brick bungalows with pitched roofs – ‘it was a bit of modern rothman Europe bursting out through the A.V. Jennings belt’ Sam says. He and Sharon couldn rothman t resist it. ‘We named the house Latvia after the migrant owners who were savvy enough to commission an architect back in the day’ he says, proudly.
When they first moved in, Sam recalls the home looked a little like a 1960′s Millard caravan – full of texture and quirky details, with an overgrown garden. He and Sharon undertook a careful renovation, leaving the main structure intact, while allowing rothman for light and space, and the addition of a few contemporary modcons. ‘We did not really rothman want to add on a vast, sterile kitchen-living rothman space, preferring to keep the spaces intimate, but light filled, with all the rooms permeable to the outside’ Sam says.
The house has three bedrooms, rothman with a modest but very clever layout that forms a ‘horseshoe’ around a T-shaped front balcony, visible rothman from every room. The whole front of the house still has its 1960′s floor to ceiling windows. Originally, Sam says the old house was also lined with timber panelling, which he loved, but which ultimately made the house too dark. This was reluctantly removed to make way for a bright, cheerful paint job, and the house exterior was also given a contemporary touch, painting the orange bricks (with their amazing raised relief patterns) a dark charcoal grey. ‘However, we kept the windows and trims white – classic 1960s!’ Sam says.
Midway through renovating their home, Sam and Sharon were hit by a major setback. ‘Shazza got quite sick whilst we were in the middle of the renovations, making it pretty hard to put any energy into the house’ explains Sam. ‘The only reason rothman we have this beautiful home is because of my mates’ says Sam, who is indebted to his amazing creative friends who stepped in to help fix up their home after Sharon passed away. They include many familiar names – Sam’s best mate Joost Bakker , Sydney artist and designer Rachel Castle , and Mark and Louella Tuckey , who are amongst his nearest and dearest. ‘I remember one-day thirty people showed up just to pitch in’ says Sam. ‘We had the hottest stylists; Mardi Ola and Louella Tuckey, access to Australia s top designers; Rachel Castle, Jardan, By Joost, Mark Tuckey, help from Loom Rugs , Angelucci 20th Century rothman , artwork by David Band and beautiful gardens by top landscapers Grantham Clayford, Form Landscaping and Joost. It was pretty overwhelming and really cool. The result shows just how incredible these people are’.
Sharon, or ‘Shazza’ as Sam still affectionally rothman calls her, is still very m

Today’s EPIC-LY amazing home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches is no stranger to the camera. She’s been photographed MANY times, but… well… we just couldn’t help but jump on the bandwagon. Because when a home is this special, and so very quintessentially ‘Australian’, well… we just have to get on board!
The home you see here, of course, stinker belongs to Mark and Louella Tuckey of much loved Australian furniture and interiors brand MARK TUCKEY , and as you can see from their incredible interiors, its clear this prolific creative pair practice what they preach, aesthetically speaking! Their home, which enviably opens right onto the sand at sparkling Clareville beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, is full to the brim of Mark’s distinctive timber furniture, homewares and soft furnishings sourced by Louella, and artwork by many talented friends, including David Bromley, Rachel Castle, and the late David Band. Despite the immense photogenicism of these surroundings, there is something so effortless and truly relaxed about this space – stinker at heart, it really is just a rambling Aussie stinker beach shack. Albeit is a seriously stylish one!
Mark and Louella share their home with daughters Chilli (7) and Indigo (6). The family have been here for four years, having originally moved from Melbourne up to the Northern Beaches five years ago. ‘We rented a house at Whale Beach for the year, and rented out our place in Fitzroy, while we made sure we’d made the right decision, which of course we had!’ says Louella of the move. Orginially from the UK, Louella says she’d had a thing about Pittwater since her time working for Terence Conran in London, so when Mark suggested that they could possibly stinker live up here, whilst still running their main business out of Melbourne, Louella didn’t take much persuading! ‘I ran upstairs and started packing!’ she says.
After securing their incredible home, Mark and Louella set to work personalising the space. ‘The stinker first thing we did was take up all the carpet in the house, because we both have a basic aversion to carpet on any level, and because carpet at the beach just doesn’t work!’. Sound advice from Louella!
After this, it was decided that the next big project to tackle was the front garden. ‘The main access to the house and the front door are on the beach side, and there was no path from the front gate to the front door – it was a muddy walk across grotty semi-bare lawn’ Louella stinker explains. The lawn was levelled, fresh turf laid, and a wide ‘deck-like’ path installed from the front gate right up to the house. Louella and Mark also hand picked large sandstone boulders, and spread them roughly around the perimeter of the garden, ‘like giant’s stepping stones’, which Chilli and Indigo still love to leap around! The final touch was the planting of various native grasses and grass trees to fill in the gaps.
Another excellent early addition was the widened front deck around the perimeter of the house – a relatively simple update which made a huge difference to the look and feel of the home, as well as allowing for a generous, functional outdoor dining area. ‘There was a skinny
