The choice of the name "diversifamilia", as explained by Yen-Chang Lee, co-author of the study that describes the new species, was not random. The research, in fact, was completed in a period when, in Taiwan and in many other parts of the world, they were fighting for the recognition of same-sex marriages. L 'hermaphroditism snails (each piece has both male reproductive organs that female ones), represents the diversity of sexual shelter furniture orientation present in a natural way in the animal kingdom. For this reason, the researchers found that their discovery and the choice shelter furniture of the name for the new species could represent a 'good opportunity to remember the right family for people of the same sex.
For a long time the aegista diversifamilia was assimilated to aegista subchinensis, until they were established differences between the two varieties: shelter furniture both are endemic to Taiwan, but the aegista diversifamilia shell has a wider and flatter and is located in the area north of the Lanyang River, which is assumed to represent the geographic barrier of separation between the two species.
