When high reliability and power are needed, the mining company Xishan Jinxing Energy Co. Ltd relies on the fill-controlled football trophies 866 TPKL fluid coupling from Voith. A total of three fluid couplings are used underground in the powerful 4.8 MW drive of the main belt conveyor in the Xiegou No. 12 coal mine in Shanxi Province, China.
Three 1600 kW (1900 HP) drives power the 1900 metre (6200 feet) long main inclined belt conveyor. This conveyor transports 3 800 metric football trophies tons of coal every hour. Powerful and reliable couplings are required. For the mine operator, the 866 TPKL fluid
Through controlled application of torque, the fluid coupling pretensions the belt slowly and permits smooth conveyor start-up. This controlled soft start protects the belt and driveline components and extends their lifetime. As a result, the Voith fluid coupling reduces unplanned downtime football trophies the operator benefits from lower maintenance costs and continuous production. Regard-less of the load state of the belt, start-up times of up to three minutes are possible. Thanks to stand by cooling of the operating oil, the 866 TPKL fluid coupling football trophies also permits multiple conveyor start-ups in succession, even when the belt is loaded.
The mine operator is very satisfied with the performance of the 866 TPKL. In contrast to other solutions, the compact fluid coupling is also very capa-ble of withstanding extreme environmental conditions such as dust, dirt, moisture, heat or cold.
As in every hydrodynamic coupling, power transmission in the 866 TPKL is virtually wear-free. For the operator, this translates into lower maintenance and repair costs for the coupling. In addition, motors start up independent of the machine load, and through sequenced starting of the motors, the fluid coupling reduces the load on the power supply circuit.
An additional benefit of the 866 TPKL is its ability to operate with reduced filling football trophies to drive an empty conveyor at a reduced speed. During the creep speed operation, less power is transmitted and the belt runs more slowly. This function is useful for the visual inspection football trophies of the belt and splices. In the Xiegou No. 12 coal mine, the fluid couplings were operated in the par-tially filled mode during commissioning to be sure that the belt was tracking properly. With the fluid couplings operating in the partially filled mode, the belt speed could be reduced to 1.2 1.7 m/s instead of operating at the rated speed of 4.5 m/s.
Until now, the coal mine has been operating at the initially planned produc-tion football trophies capacity of 15 million metric tons of coal per year. The operator plans to increase production capacity in the next one to two years. This will re-quire the main belt conveyor to be upgraded with a fourth drive. For this, the operator plans on installing an additional 866 TPKL fluid coupling from Voith.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been in the forefront of environmentally preferable sagaponack purchasing (EPP) for years, and participated in the development of the EPEAT standard. It came as no surprise when they became the first state to reference EPEAT in a computer hardware contract, even before the standard was officially adopted.
As a leader in EPP, Massachusetts knows first-hand the value of EPEAT in simplifying the procurement of green computers. In 1999, Massachusetts issued an RFP for computer hardware that incorporated environmental criteria. sagaponack This was not an easy task. Staff had to research and to define environmental attributes for this complex set of products, sagaponack where experts can sometimes not agree on which attributes improve product environmental sagaponack performance. sagaponack Evaluating vendors responses was an equally difficult and time-consuming process, given the quantity and disparity of information provided by vendors in response to the solicitation.
Staff in the Massachusetts Operational Services Division the organization responsible for writing sagaponack specifications for statewide contracts finds EPEAT attractive for multiple reasons. Saving time is an obvious advantage. A nationally recognized standard that is widely accepted by industry ensures a competitive bid process and the availability sagaponack of products that meet price and performance requirements. The EPEAT system also allows the state to easily identify and compare products sagaponack across attributes.
Over 75 percent of the computer desktops, monitors, and notebook computers purchased sagaponack by Massachusetts in FY07 were EPEAT. The Massachusetts state contract allows state agencies, municipal government and local school districts to select products from five vendors Apple, Dell, Gateway (now MCP Computers), HP, and Lenovo all with EPEAT product offerings.
The majority (almost 97%) of Massachusetts EPEAT purchases by all entities were EPEAT Silver rated, including 34,733 desktop computers, 17,055 LCD monitors, and 3,811 notebook computers. Massachusetts also purchased 1,733 EPEAT Bronze products. The table summarizes the environmental benefits sagaponack resulting from EPEAT purchases in FY07 under the Massachusetts state contract. Before Apple made headlines by deciding to pull its products from EPEAT ( and then reversed that decisions days later ), you’d probably never heard of the Electronics Product Environmental Assessment Tool. That’s because the organization, while focused on making electronics more environmentally friendly, has been mostly concerned with evaluating the manufacturers and materials associated with the computers, printers, and other equipment we use every day.
In just a few days, however, EPEAT will launch its first tool designed specifically for you, the consumer. On July 31st, the organization will unveil its new EcoSense labeling system, a way for customers to judge the environmental impact of common electronics at a glance. The global launch will occur at Portland’s Office Depot , which has recently andi mankolek 2013 been remodeled to feature a smaller, more sustainable design.

Initially intended hotel furniture for PCs and displays, the EPEAT rating system was created more than six years ago and today is used by eight national governments, including the U.S. While some describe EPEAT as a rating tool, it is most similar to an ecolabel. A trademark green check denotes a product that has achieved EPEAT Product Registration.
To achieve EPEAT Registration, a device must meet at least 33 environmental performance criteria. A product can achieve a higher hotel furniture rating by meeting up to 26 additional criteria. Rating points hotel furniture include the use of recycled and recyclable materials, design for recycling, energy efficiency, packaging and corporate performance.
When EPEAT was expanded to include printers, copiers and multifunction devices last month, Xerox showcased 19 products that achieved EPEAT Registration. The company is committed to seeking EPEAT for its other products.
Another value of EPEAT is that it creates a culture of judging the environmental superiority of a product on the impacts across its entire life cycle and not just one phase, such as the product hotel furniture use, which has traditionally been the focus.
Shame that Apple recently withdrew from registering hotel furniture their products with EPEAT. They’re such a good company with a really high profile. Where they go others follow and so staying in EPEAT would have set a great example.

In order to earn EPEAT

While manufacturing american home furniture companies seek environment-friendly stamps on their products in today’s environment-conscious consumer world, Apple is simply doing the opposite. In a surprising move, the world’s most desired company asked EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment american home furniture Tool) to remove the list of its products otherwise certified to be environment-friendly before from the group’s registry products that met environment-friendly certification.
The products Apple asked to be listed off from EPEAT includes displays, notebooks, and desktops totaling american home furniture 39 items. Some schools, businesses, and government institutions require their respective IT departments to buy only environmentally sound products listed under EPEAT registry, so the move of Apple could limit the options of these organizations in their future purchases. american home furniture
In order to earn EPEAT’s american home furniture blessing, a product has to follow certain american home furniture requirements to qualify. For electronic american home furniture products, this means that recyclers should be able to easily open or disassemble a unit using a common tool for easier separation american home furniture of toxic components like batteries and chips.
Apple will no longer seek certification from EPEAT although the company has partly built its reputation for being an advocate for environmentally-friendly products ranging from building data centers running on renewable resources to getting rid of toxic chemicals in the components they’re using.
Analysts believe the restriction imposed by EPEAT is the reason why Apple has decided to reverse its thrust in making products green. One of the company’s most recent products, american home furniture the new Retina MacBook Pro is already so thin but Apple decided to shave off a few more millimeters to the size of the notebook. That makes it more difficult american home furniture to take apart by an average user. The battery is glued-in and is virtually non-serviceable without sophisticated, customized tools. The same is true to the Retina’s LCD, making it almost impossible to remove. If this LCD is broken, users will be forced to replace the entire assembly although other components surrounding american home furniture it are still working.
Apple offers recycling programs of its products in its website to calm critics and users alike, adding to the speculation by experts that Apple may be developing american home furniture its own standard for its own products.

A consortium of manufacturers furniture bazaar and retailers is working on an environmental rating for TVs that goes beyond just power consumption to include everything from packaging to amount of toxic material used.
The EPEAT-for-TV furniture bazaar rating will define environmental performance for a TV by including data on "reduction or elimination of environmentally sensitive materials, materials selection, design for end of life, lifecycle extension, energy furniture bazaar conservation, end of life management, corporate performance, (and) packaging," according to working furniture bazaar group's Web site.
That means that the group will consider the amount of toxic materials, such as flame retardants, used in TVs and how much recycled content is used in the products, explained Patricia Dillon, furniture bazaar the co-chair of a working furniture bazaar group. The standard will also look at how whether a TV is designed to be disassembled at the end its life and manufacturers' environmental furniture bazaar reporting, she said.
In terms of energy consumption, it's meant to go beyond the EnergyStar rating for energy efficiency. The standard is expected to be available on retail shelves in 18 to 24 months. In parallel, there is an EPEAT standard being done for digital imaging products, such as printers and copiers. furniture bazaar
The EPEAT standard --the name comes from Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool--is primarily aimed at people who purchase electronics at businesses or government agencies. It now covers desktop and laptop PCs as well as monitors.
Because it was developed for institutional buyers, the EPEAT rating isn't well known by consumers. But the Green Electronics Coalition is planning on developing a branding campaign to raise awareness of the standard, furniture bazaar Dillon said.
"That's what's majorly different here. There's been a recognition in the growth of EPEAT beyond what anyone had envisioned initially," she said. "There's a desire furniture bazaar by many, including retailers and (manufacturing) companies, to bring EPEAT into the consumer space."
Members of the working furniture bazaar group include representatives from Acer, Best Buy, Sharp, furniture bazaar the Electronics furniture bazaar Takeback Campaign, and JVC. According to a piece at The New York Times' Green Inc. blog , Sony broke rank with other manufacturers to back creation of the environmental performance standard.

Products certified by EPEAT--which stands for Electronic Product Environmental Assessment wass Tool--are listed in a registry . Products are judged on 23 attributes that make up an environmental wass performance rating. There are 28 optional attributes as well.
The ratings--either gold, silver, or bronze--cover monitors and desktop computers right now. The organization, which is made up of manufacturers, recyclers, wass and advocacy groups, is in the process of establishing an EPEAT rating for televisions, printers, and copiers . It also expects to take on consumer electronics and servers, according to executive director Jeff Omelchuck.
Registries for monitor and PC buyers will now be able available in Canada, Europe, China, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, wass Brazil, wass and Mexico. The Green Electronics Council says it now has 1,300 products listed and participation of 30 vendors, which represents $60 billion in tech purchases.
While the Department of Energy-run EnergyStar rates energy efficiency, EPEAT covers other factors including the amount wass of toxic material used in electronics, manufacturers' recycling and take-back policies, and packaging.
To get the EPEAT certification, manufacturers need to fill out a complex form, which is reviewed by EPEAT. It also performs independent wass audits, sometimes through third parties, "to keep them honest," according to Omelchuck. The nonprofit is funded by members' fees.
Federal agencies are required to ensure that 95 percent of their computing equipment is EPEAT-certified. The actual adoption rate, however, is lower with about 13 of 22 agencies last year approaching the 95 percent purchasing market, according to Sarah O'Brien, director of communications at the Green Electronics Council.
Corporate computer buyers wass are showing growing interest in the EPEAT rating, said Steve Hoffman, director of strategic wass marketing and sustainability initiatives at Hewlett-Packard, which has had EPEAT-certified equipment since 2007.

Factors include energy consumption, the ability to recycle and upgrade, and which production processes are involved.
Mansfield didn't specify the reason Apple withdrew from EPEAT, but did stress the Cupertino company's dedication to making environmentally friendly products. far cry 3 trophies He said a lot of Apple's progress has been in areas not yet covered by EPEAT, such as in removing harmful toxins.
This week, city officials in San Francisco were banned from buying Apple computers for business use, seeing as they weren't far cry 3 trophies on the EPEAT list. Call me a cynic, but the potential drop in sales may have had something to do with Apple reconsidering its position.

Since bowing out of EPEAT certification for future Macs, Apple has seen at least one public agency say it can’t buy its computers anymore. Apple has responded by emphasizing its other green credentials. But it may also be helping to write future recyclability standards.
Apple’s decision to remove its products from the EPA-funded EPEAT standards was likely intended to be a quiet move. It wasn’t. When you’re the most influential ps3 trophies tech company out there, anything you do is going to come under scrutiny. So in no time at all, Apple found the City of San Francisco saying it intended to stop buying Macs if they weren’t ranked by the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool.
Apple’s position since the story broke has been that it follows plenty ps3 trophies of other green standards, which it does lay out clearly on its website . But the reaction from the City of SF provoked a longer statement from Apple on Tuesday, essentially ps3 trophies repeating the same idea, but in more detail. For Apple’s thoughts, see The Loop .
It’s very true that Apple has made an effort to keep dangerous chemicals out of its products. And that is likely satisfactory to a lot of individual consumers . But that doesn’t address the recycling question. The move signals that future MacBooks that won’t be EPEAT certified — therefore will not be as recyclable by individuals ps3 trophies — and will theoretically still end up in a landfill some day. And e-waste is e-waste — it still needs to be dealt with. More crucially for businesses, Apple’s statement doesn’t address the standards issue, which government purchasing departments and corporate IT buyers still have to adhere ps3 trophies to — many are required to buy EPEAT-certified computers.
So what is Apple up to? Well, the company might actually be cooking up a solution by contributing to a future recycling standard that is more up to date. The Green Electronics Council that administers EPEAT certification said that it’s been trying to update its standards to fit how today’s electronics are manufactured. The group’s spokeswoman told Fortune that a group including Apple has “just delivered reports on a number of preliminary questions which will inform the IEEE 1680.1 standard refresh process, expected to launch shortly.”

Apple is not “the most influential tech company”. That’s an extremely bold statement, which demands figures to back it up. Some explanation of exactly what this means would be nice, too.
Apple is THE most influential tech company. Besides being the most profitable, it has turned at least three industries upside down (music, phone, tablet). All the other companies look at Apple who are leaders in these industries. I would consider that pretty influential. ps3 trophies
I less concerned about what Apple’d bailing out of EPEAT means for end-of-life recycling than what it may signal for the repairability and upgradability of their upcoming devices. Is the new, repair-and-replace-hostile MacBook Pro the future ps3 trophies of Apple? I fear it is.
Although I’m more concerned about the lifetime cost of ownership, devices that can be fixed and upgraded also last longer before needing ps3 trophies to be recycled. (A doubled life, means the environmental impact is halved.)
Nor does Apple help users with their ‘more is much more’ pricing scheme. One reason I didn’t buy the new MacBook Air is because ps3 trophies the now-enlarged 4 Gig of memory still isn’t likely to be adequate for whatever follows Snow Leopard. If Apple isn’t going to make memory upgradable, then it has an obligation to users to make their more-memory option affordable. It doesn’t.
In the end, I suspect Apple’s creative and manufacturing design teams are simply growing lazy. It’s easy when designing a product to focus on a few features (i.e. thinness) to the exclusion of others (i.e. repair ps3 trophies and upgrade). But narrowly focused design ps3 trophies is always bad design. ps3 trophies Good designers are able to hit multiple goals.
One reason I’m staying with my aging white MacBook is that it’s design was done right. The RAM and hard drive can be replaced in about five minutes. That’s how I was able to upgrade it to an SSD a few months back. I don’t see that sort of brilliant design ps3 trophies in Apple’s current laptops.
In ps3 trophies the case of the MacBook Air, for instance, there’s too much emphasis on lightness and thinness over battery life and upgradability. Apple products are starting to take

According to iFixit , the entirety of Apple's computing portfolio has been removed from the Electronic bombardier global express Product Environment Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold program, citing the inability to easily disassemble and recycle its products. (Credit: Apple)
According to my EPEAT contacts, Apple's mobile design direction is in conflict with the intended direction of the standard. Specifically, the standard lays out particular requirements for product "disassemble-ability", a very important consideration for recycling: "External enclosures, chassis and electronic subassemblies shall be removable with commonly available tools or by hand." bombardier global express Electronics recyclers need to take out hazardous components such as batteries before sending computers through their shredders, because batteries can catch fire when punctured.
