Location: "noe.ORF.at" / Story: "Voith Hydro is building hydropower plant in Turkey"
For the German machinery manufacturer Voith Paper Voith Hydro belonging in St. Pölten has awarded a contract to equip the new Upper Kaleköy hydropower plant in Turkey. The contract is worth more than 30 million euros.
Voith Hydro to supply three Francis turbines with a capacity of 202 MW and associated equipment. The project on behalf of the energy company Kalehan Enerji is implemented in a consortium, the company reported. The new project is Upper Kaleköy as part of a cascade of four storage power plants, the second project on the River Murat in eastern Turkey: Voith currently implemented, also as part of a consortium, including the hydroelectric power station located shadow mountain further below Beyhan-1. Turkey shadow mountain is a promising hydropower market: Approximately half of the 100 installed in the first half of 2013 in Turkey are hydroelectric power plants, according to the Voith transmission. The technically feasible hydropower shadow mountain potential is estimated at about 60,000 MW. Thereof will only use about a third with approximately 20,000 MW of installed power.
