Mumbai is the biggest financial and commercial city of India, where thousands of people every day frantically tapping on their keyboards. Still rattled here until recently, yet another sound, that of the now hopelessly old-fashioned typewriter. That is in the past, because the last typewriter factory in the world, Godrej & Boyce, it closed its doors. It is unbelievable but true, the factory was until recently few thousand typewriters annually. However, demand has collapsed because modern communication tools like computers and smartphones also conquer third world countries. The company has about five hundred typewriters in stock, pietro ichino which it hopes to sell to the government of India.
The typewriter was developed at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Many decades, the devices were an integral part of office pietro ichino workstations. I can hardly imagine me, but I must confess that I have seen also that era still, can you imagine .... Source Z24
